Start/end: 2016-2026 Commentary on the Apocalypse documents societal collapse. It is my obsessions with secrets, the streets, churches and rivers; myths, extremists; the flag, God and violence. I follow daily life and fractured politics from the subcultured street level into the great halls of power. This is a close up vision of a raw, new American history being created right in front of us. The images are nuanced and made with love, but they also lay bare the oppressive realities of my home and of this country. The images depict public settings, but somehow find an intimacy within roar of the crowd, they are a testament to the isolation we experience within collective catastrophe. This project will be completed in 2026. Until then I will cover major political events/upheavals (inauguration, protests, the unforeseen) and I will continue my daily work of documenting stories in Oklahoma and Texas that investigate issues of religion, 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, race and rural homelessness. The funds would be used to buy a used Sony a9ii and 24-105mm lens. My camera is from 2012 and it is on its last legs. My goals within this project in ’25 -Document the death of the west Texas oil boom. -Explore the ecology and inhumanity of razor wire placed on the United States/Mexico border. -Document queer life in red states on a more substantial level. By ’26 -Start the process of publishing a monograph of this work. -Be working enough as a photographer to quit my day job
