This work shares a collective of stories and images that dates back to the early 90’s exploring Black cowboy culture from Black rodeos, trail rides, Buffalo Soldiers, culinary arts and other Black western traditions thru the fall of 2025. The work has crossed cross 20 states and 30 cities contacting rodeo producers, trail ride organizations, and other Western lifestyle and historical figures from Connecticut to California that are exclusive to the western legacy and “ The Great Migration” tradition. In fact, as I begin to wrap of the project this fall, I have a rodeo family traveling from California to Philly and will connect with them on the road as they travel with their animals. The average American will probably only see cowboys in local parades. But this marginalized community runs deep in legacy throughout America. The project’s purpose is educate the public on the legacy through actual story telling which includes fan fare and lifestyle of cowboy culture.
