Project Title: Daughters of War: The Women Defending Ukraine Project Start Date: August 1, 2025 Project End Date: August 1, 2026 This project will document the lives of Ukrainian women serving on the frontlines through formal portraiture and testimony. It is a long-form photographic investigation into the political, emotional, and historical role of women in war—produced not for fast consumption, but for the cultural record. The work will begin with an extended deployment to Ukraine, embedding with frontline units across multiple regions. I will photograph in field conditions using natural light, focusing on stillness and dignity in the face of volatility. The final series will consist of portraits accompanied by first-person testimonies gathered on location. The Lucie Scholarship will fund basic survival: secure housing, regional travel, food, and protective gear. It will allow me to work without interruption, and without compromising the integrity of the project to chase short-term assignments. Project Goals: 1. Produce at least 25 high-quality portraits of active-duty female soldiers 2. Collect and transcribe accompanying frontline testimonies 3. Present an online exhibition of selected works by spring 2026 4. Begin production of a photobook dummy (summer 2026) 5.
