Nicht Fallen (start in September, delivery in May 2026) follows disrupted people and landscape across former Yugoslavia, communities still living in refugee camps 30 years after the war. It considers, engages with, and proposes to further document the aftermath of the war not only as an incomplete, but ongoing history. One of the project’s main collaborators is Hazira, who fled Srebrenica at the onset of the war in Bosnia in 1992. After reaching safety, she was moved into a temporary refugee settlement where she has permanently stayed. She shares a fate with people across the region who remain displaced, for whom the conflict and its consequences have hardly ended. These ‘temporary’ refugee settlements are also a source of counter-narrative, of the many lost, unspoken or unheard histories. Goals of the project are therefore to create workshops in refugee camps (1), which would create a temporary safe space, where written contributions (2) such as poetry, oral histories, essays by refugees are made, and where visual work is also discussed and edited communally (3). Additionally, I propose to create 20 new images for the project (4), and the end and main goal is to create a publication (5) which would center on native voices and experiences of displaced people and stand as a counter-narrative of long-term displacement in the region. The grant money will also be used for compensation of written contributions by refugees.
